Mom always loved music. Being able to listen to special events at the piano, and during the summer the live entertainment outside, lifted her spirits and made her smile. Mom is very calm, settled, happy and safe in her surroundings. She has found her home away from home. She often tells me “I like it here”. It is peace of mind knowing she is in a safe, and happy environment. Everyone pitches in, to lend a hand. It is so comforting knowing that mom is so peaceful and cared for on so many levels. Special mentions to Francesca who not only cares about the residents but also their families as well. She would often share a photo, send a text, send inspirational messages and keep us up to date on mom’s day, changes, or upcoming needs. We are so grateful for everything! Francesca you go above and beyond and we are so grateful for everything you and your staff do. Holly, the videos of you reading a book to my mom while trying to get her to eat are very special moments. Cassidy you are always cheerful and interacting with the residents, whether it be planning activities, trivia, singing as a group, helping with a resident, capturing memories and sending them by email and simply asking how things are. Azeem, you calmly work the evening shift and are so kind to my mom. Sandra, you are an extraordinary nurse and person who is always cheerful, kind and patient. Viaan, Memory Living’s social worker is totally engaged with the residents, finds the time to converse with all of the residents on a one-to one basis and makes a point to jump in and assist whenever she can. Thank you to all for making mom’s journey a pleasant and peaceful one. We appreciate everything you do!

Best decision ever! In July 2021, we moved my very agile, determined 93 year old mother with Alzheimer’s into the secure Memory Living section of Chartwell Waterford Retirement Home. After months of trying to curtail Mom from taking a bus, taxi or walk to her childhood home ‘to visit her parents’. Huge peace of mind knowing she is in a safe, happy environment. From initial discussions and virtual tours ALL staff from administration to on the floor attendants have been professional, welcoming, informative, helpful and accommodating! A true asset is how well the staff work together and know their residents. Memory Living staff are well trained, organized, kind, encouraging, patient and cheerful as the very routine orientated daily and weekly schedules are carried out. Staff members are attuned to detail and exceptionally attentive to the individual residents’ needs, personalities and interests. Residents can participate in a wide variety of diverse activities and entertainment. The monthly recreation schedules sent out to family members are very much appreciated. Open, frequent communication is paramount. We appreciate the detailed general administration emails, the monthly emails from the social worker, the quick cheery updates and conversations with attendants, recreation staff and Francesca, Manager of Memory Living. The staff really have a vested interest and know their residents! Mom is very calm, settled, happy and safe in her new surroundings. It is her ‘home’ as she expressed recently to me. Bravo to Waterford staff. We really appreciate all your efforts and dedication.

After spending many hours at Chartwell over the past weekend, I definitely left with a very good feel for our Dad's new residence. I was in town from Calgary for the weekend. Overall, I was impressed by the warmth I experienced as soon as I I passed through the double doors into memory care. I was greeted by warm hellos and waves by all of the staff as I walked down the hall towards my Dad's room. A few shoutouts to a few people who stood out in my mind this weekend... Olga - Wow, she is beyond amazing. When I mentioned to Olga that I believe our Dad is putting his dirty clothes back in his drawers, she instantly offered to wash everything in his drawers while we were out at my sister's house and put everything back without him noticing. Olga consistently demonstrates how much she cares for the elderly by her soft demeanor, caring nature and she is not afraid to spread her warmth by the touch of a resident's hand or an arm across a resident's back. Chartwell is lucky to have her on staff, but even luckier are the residents that live there and get to interact with her every day. She is a gem! Hillary - She is excellent with the residents she interacts with and I witnessed this many times during my visit. She is totally engaged with the residents, comes up with interesting conversation and makes a point to interact with everyone around her. Activity Coordinator - Cassidy. I participated with my Dad as we all sat around in a circle, listening to music and following the activity coordinator as she clapped, made choreographed leg and arm movements to go along with the music. It was an upbeat activity that definitely brought joy to those participating. Francesca - Our father smiles every time he sees you. This in itself speaks volumes to our family. You definitely know and understand our Dad and gave out some great suggestions to help enrich his life. We know you have our Dad, as well as the other residents', best interests at heart always. While I didn't interact or see everyone that works at Chartwell this weekend, I am sure there are many more staff members that I did not mention that provide exceptional, caring service. I was very impressed overall and my three other siblings and I all unanimously agree switching to Chartwell Waterford was the best decision. We feel our Dad is in great hands.

The one-on-one interaction, and team strategies have assisted in getting settled and living in non-normal times. Francesca would often share a photo, send a text, and keep us up to date on dad’s day, changes, or upcoming needs. This connection and dedication are greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much to the entire Chartwell staff from Eva and the Admin team to Francesca and Memory Living for keeping us up to date, communicating all changes in a quick and timely manner and implementing strategies to keep everyone safe. Everyone’s journey is different; everyone’s time to settle is unique.

We extend our sincere appreciation and thanks to each and everyone at Chartwell Waterford.

Her last stages of Alzheimer's crept up fast, and with Covid the process of getting her into Long Term Care was more difficult. We were very happy the team agreed to allow Mum to spend her final days what she considered her Chartwell home around the team who know her and cared for her. All of the staff were all so supportive the last few weeks, and we could not be more grateful to them. Chartwell Waterford will forever hold a place in our hearts for all they did for my Mum. Thank you!

My 90 year old mother recently moved to Memory living at Chartwell Waterford. This was the best decision we made. Despite being in isolation for the required 14 day period, the staff have been amazing at making her feel at home. Francesca has been in constant contact with me making sure to communicate her progress. She has a lot of experience which made the transition so smooth and painless. Her calm approach is fantastic and very much appreciated. There was so much to do in a short time and she made sure I had everything I needed for my mother. The staff has been wonderful. Daniel and Heather made sure the suite was ready. Everything was in place (phone, TV) and the suite was spotless. They offered their help for a smooth transition. The care and attention that my mother is getting is exceptional. Everyone knows her name and she's only been there 12 days. They are very quickly getting to know her and helping her adjust. The reception staff have been amazing. COVID proved to make the move a challenge but it was less stressful because of their help. Sadie was a breath of fresh air. She is so organized and efficient and answered all of my questions which were few because she covered all aspects. All in all, there is a consistency with all staff. they are extremely caring, cheerful, helpful and insightful. This certainly gives me peace of mind which was appreciated during this unusual time.

Three years ago, my sister died with dementia, at her home, having been cared for by my brother in law through every step of her illness. His caregiving role took its toll on him, as is so often the case for family caregivers, and sadly, he began showing significant signs of dementia himself, and could no longer manage at home on his own. We were exceptionally lucky to find our way to the Memory Living Unit at the Waterford. The kindness and compassion that is shown every day is outstanding. My brother in law has had some difficulties along the way, partly because of his confusion and cognitive issues, and partly because of his grief at the loss of his wife of 56 years. Through it all, the MLU staff have been patient and caring. At every visit, I can see how the staff connect with him, laugh with him, and offer comfort. Everyone knows his name, which is so important, and together they keep finding new ways to help him feel more comfortable. It's little things that sometimes make such a difference, like Diana recognizing that using a little after shave cologne helps him feel good about himself. It is not easy to watch someone you love go through this difficult disease, but knowing he is safe and cared for so well gives me comfort too. Francesca is a fantastic leader and role model for her team and I'm sure she brings out the best in all of her staff. I so appreciate her willingness to be available, accessible to me and my family, and her tremendous commitment to quality care. And Steven the chef provides great meals, which often is a highlight of the day! I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the wonderful staff at the MLU, on behalf of our family, who are very grateful for all that you do, even in these challenging pandemic times. I wish I could mention each of you individually, but please know that each of you makes a great difference in the day for my brother in law, and all the residents at MLU. And collectively, you are a super team. Many thanks to you all.

Both my parents have been at the Waterford since it opened, making a transition from their home in Montreal. My father is in Memory Living, and my mom is in the Independent Living. The supportive management and staff has made this the best decision for our family. My mom has complete access to my father while he receives the care and support that he needs. This allows my mother the time to enjoy her independence and social activities with other residents. Through these unprecedented times our family is at ease knowing the care, support, and safety that Chartwell provides to our parents. Francesca, the Memory Living manager ensures my fathers needs are communicated and well managed. We appreciate everything that all the Staff at the Waterford continue to do, and are looking forward to celebrating the return to normal.

With the use of technology, Daniel and Heather spent the whole day making my Moms room like home. They FaceTimed me to ask what to bring...where to hang her photos, asked which little nicknaks were her favourites and by the end of the day, it was “Home” My mother was welcomed like a Queen. The staff made her a card, had a special basket with little treats waiting for her. Francesca the Manager at Memory Living checked in with me daily, giving me updates and sending me pictures of my Mom participating In the many activities that are done daily. She even called me on her days off to reassure me that she had checked in with the staff and gave me the updates. As worried and anxious as I was, the staff not only looked after my Mom as she was their own Mom, they also went out of their way to make sure I felt as comfortable and confident that this was the best move for her. The GA’s spent time with her in her room, did her hair and nails, and would sit and talk with her. All the thing I would have done, the staff did them for me. It’s not easy to see our loved ones become more dependent and confused and sometimes frightened, but I couldn’t be happier with how the Staff took care of my precious Mom. Thank You to all the Staff at Chartwell ! Thank you to the Memory Living Staff for caring so passionately for my Mom. You are all very special people
